I was born in the city of Calgary, Canada, in 1981. At the age of three, I left with my family to spend four years traveling through South East Asia. Later, I attended the Waldorf school in Calgary for nine years. The Waldorf method of pedagogy was founded by the artist/philosopher Rudolph Steiner. Steiner believed that children should learn through their own experience, and in this way they learn the most important thing to learn, how to learn. There, I had learned through the arts; (for example, reading a story, and then interpreting it through song or a drawing, which forces you to thoroughly consider the subject) and, more importantly, it empowered me at an early age to nurture my own creativity.
I have always devoted any available time to travelling, either in Canada, the United States, Europe or Asia. I enjoy taking loosely planned trips with room to improvise and take advantage of presented opportunities. I also spend a lot of time with photography. I don’t necessarily do anything with the photos I take; I just enjoy the process of choosing my compositions, and perspectives.
Between extensive travels and experimenting with acrylic paint for more than twenty years, the cultural diversity that I have been exposed to has provided an interesting perspective by which to develop my artistic direction.
